Parent Involvement

Parents Advocating for Student Excellence (PASE) is our education initiation that consist of 4 seperate curricula developed and customized to equip parents with the knowledge and skills to better assist their children throughout their academic careers. We have chosen to formulate our curricula around parent engagement because research shows parent involvement directly correlates to academic success for children and ultimately reduces the dropout rate. However, parent engagement does not only affect the child's academics, it changes their lives.

The following curricula are available through our PASE program:

Parents As Leaders (PAL): This is a 32-week curriculum that was developed for parents of Pre-Kindergarten level children. The curriculum helps parents develop an understanding of the fact that they are the most important teacher, role model, and leader in their child's life. Parents also come away with the knowledge and tools to help their child develop speech and language skills, to ultimately prepare their child for Kindergarten.

The PAL classes are currently in the following schools for Fall 2011 & Spring 2012:

  • Leonides G. Cigarroa Elementary School

  • Stephen C. Foster Elementary School

  • David G. Burnett Elementary School

  • Julian T. Saldivar Elementary School

Life After High School: This is an 8-week curriculum designed to actively engage parents in their child's transition from high school to a university. This curriculum promotes parental involvement in the child's educational success and helps the parents understand what it means to graduate high school "college ready."

The Life After High School classes are currently in the following schools for Spring 2012:

  • Thomas Jefferson High School
  • W. W. Samuell High School
  • Lincoln High School

K-12: This is a 9-week curriculum that is designed to teach parents how to navigate the school system and what it means to be actively involved in their child's education. The purpose of the curriculum is to provide parents with the tools to motivate their child to be successful, not only in school but in life.

The K-12 classes are currently in the following schools for Spring 2012:

  • Rockwall High School
  • Robert E. Lee Elementary School
  • Williams Preparatory
  • Rockwall Heath High School
  • Highland Meadows Elementary School
  • J. L. Long Middle School
  • Anson Jones Elementary
  • Casa View Elementary
  • Jerry R. Junkins Elementary School
  • Thomas C. Marsh Middle School
  • Francisco "Pancho" Medrano Middle School

Leadership: The Leadership Curriculum is an addition to any of the previous curricula. It provides a forum where the new ideas that were introduced to parents during the first curriculum can be put into practice. Topics covered include: Volunteering & Decision Making; Collaborating with the Community; and Empathic Communication. Participants also develop and execute a school-based volunteer project.
